Homeschooling Curriculum

Structuring The Homeschooling Curriculum

The decision to home school your child should be made only after careful thought and planning. First examine why you want to home school. Is it because you are not happy with the public school? Is your child getting into trouble at school? Is it because you don't want your child exposed to the bad elements at school such as, drugs, pre-marital sex or bullies? Whatever your reason, home schooling does not have to be difficult if you find the right homeschooling curriculum.

There are many types of home schooling curriculums out there. The best way to choose would be to look at your lifestyle. Do you desire a Christian based curriculum? How much time do you have to devote to developing a lesson plan? How does your child learn best? Does he learn better by hands on learning or by listening? You are the best educator for your child because you know your child better than anyone else.

Do a search on the Internet to find good homeschooling curriculums. There are many to choose from in a whole range of different prices. The good thing about buying a curriculum is that you don't feel left alone. The plans are done for you and you have a guide to help you teach your child.

Another option is online schooling. There are currently online schools in several states that allow children to attend classes via computer. Your child is sent a computer, and all the necessary textbooks needed to attend classes. You are still in an active teaching role as the parent and the online school will send teacher guides for you to use. The child will log on to the school each day and the lesson plan is right in front of him. The online school incorporates teaching videos and other neat graphics into the lessons to help your child learn. Your child is designated a homeroom teacher who is available to them at all times through emails.  You are required to have parent -teacher conferences quarterly, usually by telephone. This type of home school curriculum is perfect for the child who learns visually and the parent who may be at a loss in developing their own curriculum.

Whatever type of homeschooling curriculum you choose, always be diligent. Set aside a specific area in the home that is designated as the school area. Let your child know that he is going to school each day. Take it seriously and don't give in to your child's objections about not wanting to do the work. Find out what your child wants to be when he grows up and plan some lessons around that goal.

Home schooling can be the best thing to ever happen to your child. No one knows your child better than you. So, with the right homeschooling curriculum, your child can achieve things he has only dreamed of and you might learn a few things too!

Education should consist of a series of enchantments,
each raising the individual to a higher level of awareness
, understanding, and kinship with all living things.
